Jompet Kuswidananto

I learnt about practicing arts from my community rather than attending art school. The

community network is a fountain of knowledge and played an important role in my

development because there was the support of the state. This fountain connected me to music,

moving picture, theatre and visual art. Within my work I travel, shuttling from traditional

to contemporary styles. My work is sometimes experimental, but not always, and I work

both independently and collaboratively. As I believe that art is a way to understand and to

communicate reality, I believe an artist is both a self-explorer and a social actor. My work is

mostly inspired by the connection between oneself and others, in different dimensions and

contexts. I have worked with various methods, mediums and materials.
